Program Graphic Design Festival Breda

Program Graphic Design Festival Breda is out: from craft murals to a human rights tattoo. Once again, there is enough to experience. The program of the fourth edition of Graphic Design Festival Breda (GDFB) is out. From April 17 through April 27, 2014, the city ofBreda is entirely dedicated to graphic design. The festival treats visitors to a mix of eye-catching exhibitions and a varied programme of lectures, workshops and events.

Indoor and outdoor exhibitions
Is our food actually still safe and how ‘transparent’ is our data traffic? These and other journalistic topics are literally portrayed on huge billboards in the centre of Breda. Strolling through the city, visitors will experience the impact of graphic design on their daily lives. From signpaintings transforming a whole street to the newly erected old city tower that serves as a gateway to the festival. There is a lot to see, but also a lot to do. Just to give you an example, there is a design machine and a real printing street in which visitors can express their own ideas in a personal booklet.

Lectures, workshops and a pop-up restaurant
In addition to the expositions, GDFB also organises a three-day lecture programme in the Nieuwe Veste. On April 22, 23 and 24, international journalists, designers and researchers discuss the current state of affairs within the design practice.Roger Gerards (Creative Director) and Erwin Thomasse (Textile Designer) from Vlisco, for example, elaborate on the role of designers in a large company. Steve Powers, known for his impressive signpaintings and TED Talks, comes over specially from the U.S. to share images of his most recent work.Every GDFB day, workshops, performances and film screenings are organised in the Stadsgalerij at the Oude Vest. A pop-up restaurant ‘designed’ exclusively for the festival will surprise its guests with beautifully designed dishes made of local ingredients. '

Human Rights Tattoo: one square centimetre of your skin for human rights
One of the projects connected to the festival is the unique Human Rights Tattoo. The art collective Tilburg Cowboys draws attention to human rights by giving 6773 people from all over the world one letter of the text ‘The Universal Declaration of Human Rights’ as a tattoo. From 11:00 to 18:00, the tattoo artists of Bunker Tattoo commit themselves to this project voluntarily.
